Parents Week 2023

Parents’ Week 2023 at UC Boulder ended with the annual Phi Psi dinner and scholarship presentations. This year’s ‘Honor Connor’ winners received their signature shirts (Connor’s favored Tommy Bahamas brand) and plaques in front of proud parents and fellow brothers. Connor’s dad, David Thomson, was on hand to congratulate Charlie Longweuth and Francis Lynch. Both recipients exemplify the spirit of philanthropy and are active in ‘giving back’ to their communities.

Charlie Longweuth_2023

Charles Loewenguth

Charlie Loewenguth embraces the philosophy of ‘giving back’. This mechanical engineering major spends much of his free time serving Phi Kappa Psi, CU, and the Boulder community. Leadership positions include Chapter Vice President in the fall of 2021 and Alumni Chair in the Spring of 2023. His time as Academic Chair helped his brothers climb the IFC rankings from #15 to #2 after just one semester! Charlie’s success spring-boarded him to Executive Director of Academics for all 21 campus fraternities with ongoing initiatives to raise cumulative GPAs.

As a freshman, Charlie volunteered with Connor for a local graveyard clean-up project. He remembers the smile and satisfaction on Connor’s face when they had finished. Charlie enjoys sharing stories about Connor with younger members during local foodbank collections and ‘ending distracted driving’ campaigns. He credits his volunteer time as ‘some of the best experiences, relationships, and memories I will ever have.’

Francis Lynch_2023

Frank Lynch

Frank Lynch spent his junior spring semester volunteering and studying conservation in Tanzania, Africa. He worked with a team dedicated to helping local schools, orphanages, and villages impacted by climate change. Fundraising for community-building and working with area families had a big impact on Frank. “Spending my days teaching the children English and watching the smiles light up their faces when we would bring in new equipment was very rewarding for me,” Frank said.

This accounting and finance major also serves closer to home. He worked as Director of Membership for Beta Alpha Psi, an accounting and finance honor society. Frank also helped incoming freshmen adapt to college life as a ‘peer mentor’ for the Leeds School of Business. At home in Chicago, Frank and his father are active volunteers at Saint Mary of the Lake soup kitchen.

2022 Score Card

April - Pledge Signing Drive to Combat Distracted Driving
Boulder’s Phi Kappa Psi Chapter raised nearly $7,000 with a campus-wide campaign that included brothers and volunteers manning multiple locations over several days. Students, parents, and faculty joined the effort in generating 314 ‘pledged’ signatures and spreading awareness about safe driving solutions.

December - Honor Connor Memorial Food Drive
Last year’s annual drive resulted in more than 500 pounds of food collected to benefit the local homeless community, a cause very close to Connor’s heart.
